The month of May has flown by! During the first two weeks of May, I was focused on final exams and projects to wrap up the spring semester of graduate school at USC.  Then, I took a bit of a break before my summer classes started this week. Since my summer classes are focused on communications research and the business of sports entertainment, I’ll be spending the summer blogging about how social media influences and is influenced by research, entertainment and sports.

There is no question that new technology tools provoke creative innovation. A clear example of this process is what has happened in the music industry over the last decade. Our Intro class speaker on Monday, April 19, 2010 was Scott Dinsdale, EVP of Sony Music Digital Operations, and he gave us a great overview of what was happening the music and entertainment industries and where they are headed. The story stated that ‘talks between Fox and O’Brien’s reps have made significant progress in recent days toward a deal that would bring the late-night host back to broadcast TV.’

Phil Mickelson has won the 2010 Masters Golf Tournament! He birdied the 18th hole and shot a 67 in Sunday’s fourth round, winning the Masters by three strokes. When his tee shot landed behind a tree on the 13th hole, he selected his 6-iron and took a full swing, and his ball landed five feet from the pin.
